California dreaming (Laguna Beach) – Chow Bella Travels

July 1, 2018

So you guys all know that I have been going to the beach for the last 15 years of my life… And that is the total amount of time I have been out of the womb. I have always been, and always will be a beach girl at heart. I could most definitely live at the beach!! I have always dreamt what it would be like to have a lovely beach cottage with super cute light and beachy decor with the doors open, curtains swaying with the breeze and the sound of the waves crashing in the distance… ahh… oops, I am getting a little carried away. Back to the point. 🙈

Right, so the point is I love the beach! Growing up in Southern California, I have been blessed to be surrounded by some of the most beautiful beaches in the whole world. Some of my family’s favorites are Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Newport Beach and of course, Laguna Beach!!! Laguna Beach is that picture perfect California Beach town! Every time we visit I fall in love with it and do not want to leave! Imagine strolling through the old town down a tree-lined street, you can see the sand, you pass by little surf shops and cafes and you smell the ocean breeze as it blows your hair around.

Where to stay?

#1. The Ritz-Carlton.

The Ritz-Carlton In Laguna Nigel always impresses!! From the moment you drive up to valet, to the moment you check out everything is quite impeccable! They truly make you feel so special whenever you stay with them! They even brought us these chocolate covered strawberries to welcome us back! So sweet 🙈💕

#2. The Montage Resort.

Our NO 2 choice in Laguna is the Montage Resort, we have been staying at the montage since my sister and I were little. So we have made lots of wonderful memories there. In fact, when I was 5 years old my parents bought me a little giraffe stuffed animal at the gift shop in the hotel and I absolutely adored my little giraffe… Until one morning of our vacation I woke up and realized that I couldn’t find my giraffe ANYWHERE! So, as the normal little 5-year-old girl would do… I started crying and freaking out. LONNNNGGG story short, we searched that entire resort property for HOURS until we found my precious giraffe. And I still have that giraffe stored safely to this very day! Some memories you can never let go of!

(The only reason we choose to stay at the Ritz-Carlton now is that we just love the balconies with the view the Ritz has, The Ritz is located on such a special part of the beach with their own private beach access!!)

The Montage has a wonderful pool and spa overlooking the ocean and tide pools, which is quite special to be right in the middle of the ocean paradise as you’re swimming in the pool!

Our weekend at The Ritz-Carlton:

Driving down PCH on the way to the Ritz in Laguna is always such a fun experience! The California coast is so stunning, there is nothing like listening to Bob Marley as you have all the windows down driving by the ocean!

We kicked off the beach weekend with a nice family stroll along the beach. And of course, I wore my absolute favorite beach dress! This flowy yellow dress makes me so happy! Isn’t yellow just such a happy color? I mean the sun is yellow, flowers are yellow, bananas are yellow and all of those things + Happiness!! Am I right??

I love waking up nice and early to have some productive time before the day starts. Whether I do some writing for an upcoming post, meditate, do some yoga, or just simply sit and look at the ocean and think of all the amazing things I am grateful for! No matter what it is, I just love my early mornings! I have always been an early riser, I just love the peace and quiet! And I also LOVE being able to get soooooo much more done in the day! So, today I started with a nice smoothie and some blogging with that impeccable ocean view!! 😍

Sunny Beach day.

So, as I have said. ( Plenty of times) I love the ocean! Whenever my family and I go to the beach for the day, I am in the water the whole time! I wouldn’t waste a second of my precious time to be in the water for anything! And to make it even better, the hotel gives you boogie boards!! So I just had a blast playing in the waves all day long!

What about the sharks???

Ok… So yes, there are sharks in the ocean! Big news right? But to be honest, they don’t want to hurt you. They are probably wayyyyyy more scared of you than you are of them. Sharks don’t hunt humans, they just go about their lives and if you get in their way, they are going to defend themselves! So there is really no reason to be scared.

Sunset in paradise = Time for dinner!

Before I talk about our dinner… I have to talk a bit about this evening’s outfit of course! What kind of blogger would I be if I didn’t share my fashion??!? So, this evening I wore my favorite leggings that look like a fun denim almost but they are actually cotton and super comfy! With a tied up tee and a cozy cardigan! This is the perfect outfit for outdoor evenings at the beach, it always cools off and gets breezy quite quickly by the ocean! And not to mention, the sunset views here are so magical! Unlike anywhere else in the whole world!! 🌞

180 Blù Restaurant

The Ritz-Carlton Laguna Nigel has 2 different restaurants on property. 1 is more casual and 1 is fancier. Tonight we decided to go with the more casual restaurant so we can just relax and listen to music! 180 Blù is an all-outdoor patio with the best views for miles around of the gorgeous 1.5-mile long salt creek beach and the most magical sunsets over the Pacific. They have lots of fresh sushi options as well as modern American selections!

I started with a beet and burrata salad. It came beautifully plated with colorful beets and crispy Farro, it reminded me of shells on the sand with the humus smeared underneath. But, the most important part… How did it taste? SOOOO DELICIOUS!!! Imagine the freshest and creamy burrata ever with little crunchy bites of farro, sweet from the beets and sour from the pickled onion! This dish was definitely a home run!

For my entree, I had the Grilled Wild Salmon with a little side salad topped with fresh avocado and pepitas (pumpkin seeds)!

Overall the food at 180 Blù is absolutely delicious, I highly recommend eating here! You truly can not beat the magical experience!

As it is the last day at the beach until next time, I am savoring every last moment I can be in the water! I just love that feeling of the water passing through your toes as you stand there in peace and amazement of this incredible world!

Laguna Beach will always hold a very special place in my heart!

I can still close my eyes and hear the waves crashing, seagulls squawking and smell the sea breeze in the air.

So, if you ever visit Laguna you will definitely want to at least take a stroll around this magnificent property, beach, and grab some food at 180 blù!
